Rhinoplasty- Auckland

Dr Chaplin has performed hundreds of rhinoplasty operations for both men and women, to straighten, reduce, refine or build up the bridge to give a more attractive appearance to the face.

The nose is at the centre of the face about which all the other features are balanced. Deformities of the nose tend to be obvious and can create feelings of self consciousness and low self esteem. In addition the nose is a very important part of the respiratory system, warming and humidfying the air you breathe.

The shape of the nose is determined by the structure of the bone and cartilage that makes up the nasal skeleton and by the complex way the skin is draped over these structures. Rhinoplasty is an operation used to change the shape of the nose by reshaping the cartilage and bone that makes up the skeleton under the skin. Occasionally skin also needs to be removed to achieve the ideal result.

The reasons for performing the surgery are varied: A person may want to change some feature of their nose to improve self esteem; to make themselves feel younger and more attractive or they may simply want to breathe better. The operation is also highly variable and an experienced surgeon like Dr Chaplin understands how subtle changes to the nasal skeleton will change the shape of the nose and create the right look for your face.

There are two main approaches:

  1. 1. The endonasal approach: Where the operation is performed entirely through the nose and there are no visible scars on the nasal skin.
  2. There are two main approaches: 1. The endonasal approach: Where the operation is performed entirely through the nose and there are no visible scars on the nasal skin.

Each rhinoplasty is an individual operation designed to suit a particular patients features. During any one rhinoplasty many different procedures are combined to create the final outcome. The procedures are performed in a stepwise fashion and the skin is replaced and the incisions closed as the final step. Some of the procedures are listed below.

Any and all of these procedures and more can be combined to be able to deal with the many and varied challenges that the cosmetic and functional nasal surgery patient offers.

Dr Chaplin has experience in all of these techniques and he uses these every week in his cosmetic surgery practice. He has the ability to create a natural looking nose that will suit the features of the patient and does not have that "operated look". He has particular expertise in revision rhinoplasty where the patient has had previous surgery elsewhere with unsatisfactory results. In this situation Dr Chaplin is able to restore a natural looking and aesthetic nose despite the scarring and contraction caused by prior procedures.
